Microneedling is performed by Dr Shakeel on the area of concern with the aim being to trigger an inflammatory and subsequent healing response from the body with the result being rejuvenated and fresher looking skin via production of collagen, elastin, and retexturizing/thickening of the skin. A specialist motorised Dermapen is used with multiple tiny needles to cover the area of skin being treated and this will create thousands of fine channels/holes within the skin which will allow entry of healing factors and nutrients far deeper into the skin than otherwise possible. With the controlled micro injuries that this process causes, this leads to the body having an increased effectiveness of healing within the area.

Microneedling itself can be really effective at the production of fresher, more rejuvenated and younger looking skin within the area treated. As mentioned above a specialist device is used to administer the treatment. For further effectiveness this can be used alongside PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections which will allow deeper penetration of the PRP into the skin with increased potency leading to a greater degree of healing and rejuvenation.

The procedure typically lasts around 45 minutes where following sterilisation and application of numbing cream, the dermapen is used as described above to treat the area. The depth of the needles used within the pen will vary based on the area treated as well as what is being treated ie  when treating quite significant acne scarring the needle depth will need to be deeper. The treatment uses sterile and single use consumables only to ensure the utmost safety and hygiene. Immediately after the procedure a Hyaluronic Acid serum will be applied whilst the microneedle holes are open to allow it to penetrate deeper into the skin for increased effectiveness.

Sometimes results may be visible soon after the treatment. Generally more significant and longer lasting results can be noticed after 3-6 treatments spaced 4-8 weeks apart. With increased sessions your skin can be expected to improve over a period of 6-12 months.

Usually patients may experience 3-4 days of mild sunburn appearance and some discomfort following the treatment. During the healing process in the days after treatment there may be some itchiness, redness, or flakiness of the skin which can be expected to settle down with time. Please try to avoid picking at the skin during this period. For 2 days after treatment please avoid the following,

Direct UV exposure, intensive cardio/exercise, hot showers/sauna/steam rooms, further aesthetic treatments of any kind, spraying/using any skincare products whatsoever, swimming in pools/ocean, tattoos. Please refrain from using anything on your face during this period.

Immediately after the procedure there may be some redness, discomfort, bleeding, or flaking of skin. You may experience facial redness for 1-4 days after treatment, although this can be expected to settle soon after.

Microneedling can be used pretty much anywhere on the body.
