Cryotherapy is performed using a specialised device which delivers a precise application of extreme cold via liquid nitrogen to unwanted tissue such as skin tags, moles, warts, verrucae and other lesions. This causes skin cells within the lesion to freeze and eventually die causing the lesion to drop off before healing occurs.

The product used is liquid nitrogen which at temperatures as low as -89 degrees centigrade causes destruction of skin cells within target lesions which is followed by skin healing. This liquid nitrogen is delivered in a targeted way using a Cryopen device to apply the solution at a high pressure to a targeted area.

The procedure typically lasts a few minutes whereby one or more rounds of treatment is administered to the area of concern. It is usually quick and relatively painless although there may be some mild discomfort during application.

Results can take anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks to show. Immediately after the treatment the skin lesion may become darker in colour and start to crust over. Over the following few weeks it will start to flake away before the skin heals over the area. Healing time and results vary between patients and a follow up will be performed around 4 weeks after treatment to review if any further sessions are required.

Avoid touching or rubbing treated areas for 12 hours, avoid makeup for 12 hours, avoid strenuous activity for 48 hours, avoid direct sunlight exposure or heat (hot showers, saunas, steam rooms) for 72 hours.

After the procedure there may some swelling, blistering, and pale discolouration of skin which is usually expected to settle given enough time.
